I just wanted to do a post today on another Chinese New Year look - just a simple one to wear when doing New Year visiting.

I used mineral eyeshadows from Ragged Blossom Beauty, and I'm also going to review them in this post!

I was sent these eyeshadows by Lindy - the owner of Ragged Blossom Beauty - for a product review. I wanted to test these eyeshadows out because they are handmade, and more importantly, vegan friendly. As stated on their page, these shadows are also paraben, talc, oil, fragrance, bismuth oxycholoride, boron nitride, synthetic dye, and animal product - free.


Appearance

These shadows come beautifully packaged in a paper bag with a ribbon and a cute note from Lindy. I loved that about this product - it makes it seem very personalized, and you can tell that Lindy has put a lot of effort into it.



The eyeshadow pot itself is nice and sturdy - packaged with a sticker over the 'salt and pepper shaker' holes a-la Bare Minerals.

As you can see from the photos, these shadows contain fine pigments of glitter - not as fine as I'd like, but maybe that is because of the fact that these shadows are handmade? I can't say for sure, because I know nothing about making mineral eyeshadows.


Colour

Lindy thought that I should be sent the more bold colours from her product line, so I was sent 3 full-sized jars of the shades Snowfilly, Mint Sauce, and Waterlady, and also two sample sized shades in Koi and Lovelorn.

Note that you have to layer on these colours to achieve the look that you're going for. I recommend using a pencil brush so that the colours are deposited thickly, otherwise you will only get a sheer wash of colour.

Of the 5 shades, I really, really love Koi - it's a beautiful olive-gold-green shade and I find it matches my skin tone really well! It is also really easy to blend with my other favourite shadow colours - light blue or gold for a daytime look, and dark blue for a more smoky eye look for nighttime.

The colour difference between Waterlady and Mint Sauce is very subtle, so I recommend you get one or the other if you're thinking of getting these shadows.

Texture

The texture of these shadows are comparable to MAC pigment eyeshadows. They are finely milled, and very easy to apply. Most of my looks have been done using a pencil brush and these shadows. I find that anything other than a pencil brush will spread the shadows a little bit too thinly.

Here's a little close-up of the eyes (with flash and without). I used Koi on the inner lid, and Waterlady on the outer lid and crease. On the inner crease, I applied a gold eyeshadow highlight (from my Sleek Original palette).
