What's in My Makeup Travel Bag: Weekend Edition

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

As most of you know via Twitter and Instagram, I was away in the Yarra Valley over the weekend. I promised that I was going to post about my travel makeup bag, and here I am living up to that promise (shock, horror!).

First, let me show you my bag. I bought this fold-over cosmetic bag last year in preparation for a weekend away, and I love it! It fits just the right amount of products in for a quick weekend, and I love the colour and print.

The bag is broken up into three tiers - one large pouch, two clear plastic compartments, and one mesh compartment. It also has a convenient little hook so that you can hang the case up whilst you're doing your makeup.

So let's take a look inside! I'm going to start with the first large compartment, right at the bottom of the case.

I removed my toothbrush and toothpaste, but kept everything else inside so that I could photograph them. I will give you mini reviews of these products, but if I've mentioned them in previous blogposts, I will just link to those reviews.

Batiste Dry Shampoo (for dark hair)
I was only going to be away for one night, but I knew we were going to do a bit of walking around and didn't want my hair to get greasy. This was perfect for a quick touch up along the way. I reviewed them on video here.

Smelly No More Deodorant
My favourite, natural deodorant. Quick review here.

Hamilton Family Dry-Touch Sunscreen
This is a rare treat of a sunscreen. Most sunscreens are very oily and greasy, and are quite annoying to wear.  This one has an easy-to-apply spray applicator and, as the name promises, is dry to the touch. Perfection.

The next tier houses the most interesting products (in my opinion)! Here's the makeup that I brought! I wanted makeup that was long-lasting and easy and quick to apply.

(clockwise from top left)

Rimmel Colour Mousse 8Hr Shadow in 003 Sassy
These last forever and don't wash off in the most oily of skin conditions. I love this colour because it enhances my skin and makes it look fresh and glowing.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow
I apply this with my Skin Food Eyebrow Brush. This was originally recommended to me by Jenny, and it is insanely good! It is easy to apply (with the right brush!) and lasts for hours and hours without melting or fading.

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush in Cherub
I have mentioned this blush a few times this past month, and for good reason! This lasts forever on the skin, and blends very easily. It is different from other blushes because it is a very light, watery liquid. Only a very tiny amount is needed to give you a gorgeous blush. I used it this weekend over a mineral powder foundation, and though it is not recommended that you layer a liquid product over powder, it can actually be done. All you need is a little patience, and a lot of blending. Apply it bit by bit, so that it is easier to apply, and you can control the blending and intensity better.

Clinique Airbrush Concealer
This is an easy, quick touch-up for the undereye area and has little illuminating particles that really clear out those dark undereye circles.

L'Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in Fairest Nude
This, I put in my handbag. I love this for a more coloured (yet still nude) lip when I'm wearing almost nothing on my lids, and this went perfectly with my Rimmel cream eyeshadow and Daniel Sandler blush.

Bare Minerals Foundation
I apply this with my Body Shop kabuki brush. I used this before I started beauty blogging and I still love it for times when I know I will be out all day, and when I know I might be sweating a little. This is great because it doesn't clog pores. Read my review of it here.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trio in Blue Eyes
This is an amazing eyeliner! They come in a set of three - for blue, brown, and green eyes. The one I am using is a black eyeliner from the Blue Eyes set, but I love using it because it has tiny little blue flecks in it. The reason why I brought this eyeliner with me is because this is my absolute favourite drugstore eyeliner! It is convenient (twist to sharpen), and does not budge! I mean, not at ALL. I had this on the entire day, through rain, sweat and shine, and still nothing budged. It was as intense as ever at the very end of the night as it was when I first applied it. If you are looking for a good, easy to use pencil liner, this is PERFECT for you!

Benefit They're Real Mascara and Skin Food Lecithin Mascara Base
These are a great combination to use on the lashes! The mascara base plumps and defines, and the Benefit They're Real defines the lashes further and makes them feathery, voluminous, and pretty!

Sleek Contour Kit in Medium
I usually use this to contour, but this time I wanted to use it in my crease, with the 217 brush that I packed as well. I need to define my eyes a little, because if not, they look quite hooded and flat :(

And now for the final tier!

L'Oreal Ever Pure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
I love collecting little sample packets and brought these just in case a hair wash was unavoidable. For the health conscious, these are sulfate-free and gentle on the hair.

L'Occitane Lavender Shower Gel
As mentioned in my previous blog post, I am a huge fan of L'Occitane products, even more so their Lavender range! I was lucky enough to get a sample sized Lavender shower gel, which was perfect for my weekend away!

DHC Deep Cleansing Oil
I packed a couple of pumps of this in a travel container, so I wouldn't have to bring the entire bottle with me. This is my go-to makeup remover and I am on my second bottle already - very rare for someone like me who is always looking for a new product!

L'Oreal MenExpert Daily Anti-Fatigue Moisturiser
I was also lucky enough to collect a little sample-sized moisturiser for the boyfriend - which he gladly used, because of the horrid, dry weather!

Guinot Instant Radiance Moisturising Mask
This was a backup product that I brought, just in case I needed a moisture boost, and I am so glad I brought it with me! It was great to use around some really dry patches on my skin, and even around my ankles.

I also brought my Simplicité Anti-Acne travel pack with me, which I blogged about here. I am so glad that Robin sent me the trial pack because this was so easy to just pop into my travel bag!

I hope you liked this post. Please let me know in the comments what your travel essentials are! x
