Product Review: Phillips Lumea Precision Plus

Friday, December 21, 2012

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you've all had a fabulous week and are all geared up for the upcoming holiday season!

I have a makeup tutorial coming later tonight, and I also just published a Christmas gift ideas video for all you last-minute shoppers out there, so please check it out here, I would really appreciate it!

Today I am posting a review of the Phillips Lumea Precision Plus IPL Hair Removal System.

In case you haven't heard of it, IPL (Intense Pulse Light), is a treatment used to even out discoloration in the skin, and, more often, also used in professional treatment salons to remove unwanted hair. Google it if you'd like to learn more about how it actually works!

This at-home salon-style treatment is a fantastic way to get rid of unwanted hair - almost permanently!

The device itself is a little cordless gun-like machine that has a light, portable charger that you can easily plug in and charge when it is not in use. Once it's fully charged, unplug it and simply press into your skin. When the 'ready' light flashes green, press the button (located in the inner curve of the device) and a light will fire off.

Unlike salon-style treatments, you do not need to wear protective glasses when using this, but it is recommended that you do not look directly into the light (as with all other light-emitting devices). The teeny, tiny downside to this is that you will need to undergo a larger number of treatments before your hair is fully removed, compared to salon treatments.

This device is not recommended for use by people with skin that is too dark or too light - a little look at the label on the side of the box will tell you if it is suitable for use on your skin type.

I used this device for the recommended period of time - 5 treatments, once every two weeks, and I am finally ready to write a full review of it!

For my trial, I tried it on my underarm area, because that area has more coarse hair, and I wanted to see how this device performs with more difficult-to-remove hairs. The device comes with two head-attachments, and I used the smaller one, meant for the face, underarm, and bikini areas. By the end of the treatment, there was almost nothing there. I might use it one or two more times so the area is perfectly clean, but at the moment, there are only a couple of stray hairs left!

The device is extremely easy to use, and doesn't hurt at all - just make sure that you are well-shaved before you use it! If you have a little hair still sticking out on the surface of your skin, the hair will burn, and sting a little. Sometimes this is unavoidable, but it is very rare, and the sting is tiny, not even as painful as an ant bite.

This new Lumea device also has a new Slide & Flash function - where the light fires off in uniform blasts - which you can use to just slide across the area you want to treat, instead of stopping and firing the light off by yourself area-by-area.

It is also pretty long-lasting - the light has a lifetime of 100, 000 flashes - and has an estimated lifespan of 5 years.

Overall, I am very, very impressed with this device, and so happy that I don't have to get these treatments in-store, where the experience can be a little daunting!

This is not an inexpensive device, and will set you back about AUD 1, 299.95. I suggest splitting the cost with family members, since the device is very easy to clean and is so portable. It is on retail now, at Shaver Shops nationally.
