New In: Hair Favourites!

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

As you guys may have seen on my social media accounts and on my YouTube videos, I've had a couple of changes in hair colour and style recently. To keep up with these changes, particularly the bleaching that my hair went through a few months ago, I've had to expand my horizons, so to speak, in the haircare world. Some of these new discoveries have become absolute favourites, and I thought it was high time I share some of them with you today.

So here goes! I hope you guys enjoy this - these are proper tried and tested products!

Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler
For those of you who don't know, Pureology is a 100% vegan, sulphate-free salon haircare brand created specially for colourists and their clients. Their Perfect 4 is a leave-in hair treatment that helps to strengthen colour-treated hair and repair it over time. Immediate effects upon application are an obvious smoothing of the hair and flyaways, and complete elimination of frizz. My hair looks healthier, more silky and smooth, and much shinier whenever I use this product and I absolutely love it. You can buy this online or from salons and specialty stores.

Kérastase Résistance Thérapiste
This range is salon-only, but I recently had the opportunity to trial it at home and I must say, it's making the biggest difference to my hair. This range is meant for hair that's been badly damaged by colour or treatment. The interesting thing about this range is that you're meant to apply the hair conditioner before you shampoo, and I am so curious as to why that is! Before I get the answer, though, suffice it to say that my hair has been looking it's old self since I started using this range! It's smooth, silky, thick, and bouncy. To try this range in action (including a heck of an effective mask), visit a Kérastase salon and ask for their Résistance Thérapiste treatment. You won't regret it, trust me.

ghd Original V Gold Classic Styler
If your hair has a history of letting you down (literally!) mere minutes after you've styled it, then you're looking at the solution to your problems here. ghd have somehow managed to perfect their stylers in a way that no other hairstyling tool brand has managed - their straighteners lock that style into your hair no matter how stubborn your hair is! Take my sister Michelle, for example. Michelle recently started getting into styling her hair, and her first foray into hair styling tools happened to be my new ghd Gold Classic Styler, to which she took an immediate liking. In her next two weeks in Australia, she curled her hair constantly, and loved her hair so much she wanted to 'misappropriate' said ghd, to which I of course said no *heheh*. A month or so ago, she attended a wedding in Singapore and shared another one of my hair curling tools, which has worked perfectly well for me thus far, by the way. On the other hand, Michelle's hair was having none of it. She hadn't even finished curling her whole head before previously curled sections went limp and straight - and this was after mousse and hairspray! Needless to say, she declared her undying loyalty to ghd and has used no other hair tool since. Here are pictures of her ghd-curled hair:

Which reminds me....I haven't seen my ghd in quite a while....

L'Oreal Professionel V-Look Colour and Cut
K-pop lovers, or lovers of V-shaped faces, be prepared to run out with your wallets ready! L'Oreal Professionel haircare has launched their V-Look signature treatments at participating salons. These cut-and-colour treatments are meant to slim your face and give it a more 'V' look, using different colours and layering techniques on your hair to achieve that visual effect. I tried it myself one fine day at Shawn Cutler salon and though I wasn't quite convinced on the day itself (here's a picture):

The following days had me singing another tune. I loved my new bangs, and got so many compliments!

Disclaimer: I am one of those girls who does suffer from days when I retain more water in my body, and on the day of the treatment I, admittedly, was a little 'bloated'. This isn't some miracle weight loss or magic angle! ;)

Someone (without knowing this was a V-look treatment) even said that it made me look slimmer. #WIN. A few others asked me for my hairstylist because they loved the layers in my hair. The V-Look treatment is still in L'Oreal Professionel salons now, and if you like my stylist, you can find him at Shawn Cutler salon in Bangsar. His name is Zein, and tell him Emily says hi! :)

I hope that you guys enjoyed this little roundup! If you end up trying some of the products or treatments I shared, tweet or Snapchat me @emilyquak! I'd love to hear your thoughts :)
