Get the Look: Kristen Bell as Marni Olsen in 'You Again'
Monday, May 23, 2011Hi guys! I hope you're all having a lovely start to the week! I have a very simple tutorial for you all today, inspired by Kristen Bell's makeup in the film 'You Again'.
I loved her silvery sheen of eyeshadow - it looked like a cross between cream and powder shadow, which I found really fascinating.
I took to Twitter to find out from the beauty experts what exactly this was. I remember Beau Nelson's trick of using a metallic eyeshadow over a matte eyeshadow to create that dimension and shine, but when I tried it, it didn't give me that 'part cream eyeshadow' feel that I wanted. I started asking around for a better product to use, and I was lucky enough to get a really accurate answer from Paula at TheConcealer - she suggested the NYX Pearl Mania eyeshadow pigments.
They worked out perfectly on top of some Rimmel mousse eyeshadows that I purchased, so I'm really excited to share this tutorial with you today!
The look is really, really simple, but the effect you get from the eyeshadow is just gorgeous.
Pat Rimmel's Mousse Eyeshadow in #005 onto the lid. Make sure the layer is nice and thin, so that it doesn't crease. Stop right below the crease. To create the intense cream look that you see on Kristen's eye, apply another layer of the mousse eyeshadow onto the lid after the first layer has dried.
Then, using a fluffy eyeshadow brush, apply NYX's Pearl Mania eyeshadow pigment in Silver onto the lid, on top of the mousse eyeshadow. Blend into the crease. Don't apply too thick a layer here, we just want a wash of silver so that the mousse eyeshadow shows through.
Apply a gel eyeliner, staying close to the lashline. I am using Clinique Brush on Cream Liner in True Black.
Clean up under the eye with a concealer. I used MAC MoistureCover in NC25.
Apply a pink blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards. I used Face of Australia Blush in Outback Primrose.
Then, apply a highlighter to your brow bones, the tops of your cheekbones, and onto the apples of your cheeks. I used TheBalm Mary Lou-Manizer.
Apply lipgloss. I mixed Face of Australia Divine Lip Plumper in Lavish Instinct with NYX Brush On Lipgloss in Lilac Fields.
Apply some mascara, and you're done!
Obviously I have nothing on the gorgeous Kristen Bell, but I love that the eyeshadow trick worked! Maybe next time I'll contour my crease a little before applying the eyeshadows, but otherwise, I love how it turned out! I hope that anyone who's interested tries this look out, especially you guys with the deep set eyes, I bet it would look wonderful on you!
