Celebrity Beauty Trend: Blue Eyeliner

Thursday, November 18, 2010

This blue eye trend has been a little obsession of mine for some time now. How amazing does this flash of colour look, seriously?

I like it bold, flashy, and shimmery. It looks amazing, and I can't wait to try this trend some time in the near future!

I'm partial to electric blue and turquoise, but you should choose any colour that you think will most help add that zing to your look! A good way to determine what will most bring out your eyes is to check a colour-wheel. The colour that is the exact opposite of your eye colour on the chart is the best colour to pick.

For example, black/brown on the charts is directly opposite bright blue - so black/brown-eyed people can use blue to make their eyes pop, and the exact opposite goes for people with blue eyes. Also, if you're blue-eyed, to add that pop to your look, choose a gunmetal black, or a black with shimmery flecks of blue or green.

I've searched quite a bit for eyeliners with strong pigments in them, so the colour is bold and strong. Here are my favourites, listed on eBay:

Left to right:

Row 1
MAC Liquidlast Eyeliner in Aqualine and Blue Herizon

Stila Glitter Eyeliner in Sea Green (#4)

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Electric and Flipside

Row 2
Too Faced Smurfy-Eyed Liquid Eyeliner

Stila Barbie Smudge Pot Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue

NYX Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Blue

Row 3
Avon Arabian Glow Eye Pencil in Vivacious Turquoise

A few final tips to make those eyes really pop:

To make the colour stand out against your skin, line the area you will line with your blue eyeliner with a white pencil first. Then, fill in the inner corners of your eye and your bottom line with it. After that, layer your blue eyeliner on top of the white line.

Wear a pink lipstick. The closer to a neon-pastel pink you get, the more your blue liner will stand out.

There's no rule when it comes to colour - experiment with colour! Find a colour that you like. The better you feel about yourself, the better you look   :)

You can try lining the bottom of your eye with the colour, instead of your top lashline - like Kate Hudson does in the picture above.
