Product Review: Ombres Perlees de Chanel

Wednesday, March 09, 2011

Right before coming back to Melbourne, I was actually looking at foundations at the Chanel counter (thanks to the gorgeous Tiffany from Will Work For Makeup who was trialling a few foundations - her skin looked beautiful!) when I came across this display case with the most gorgeous 5 eyeshadows I have ever seen!

It was the Ombres Perlees de Chanel - a limited edition quint from Chanel's Spring 2011 collection

Colour

If you read my blog, you'll know that I am a huge fan of complex colours - colours that look dimensional, or multicoloured. This eyeshadow palette gave me just that:

From left to right: White pearl, Pink, Deep Purple, Green-grey, Black pearl

All colours have a pearly shimmer to them, which the picture with flash captures well. What the camera doesn't manage to catch is the beautiful glitter particles in each shadow - all of them are coloured differently, which make the shadows look multi-coloured. They are really beautiful to look at.

Texture

I was kind of disappointed with the texture of these shadows. They nowhere near as smooth and as buttery as I would like them to be. However, if I apply with my fingers, it somehow makes the eyeshadow more vibrant and easier to apply compared to the colours when applied with a brush.

Performance

These shadows did not crease, and I did not experience any fallout at all. Staying power was amazing, even though I rubbed my eye a couple of times by accident (you should've seen how I panicked!)

The colours go on really sheer, so you'll need to apply more layers if you're going for a more intense look.

Check out the FOTD I did with the palette:

I used Deep Purple on the inner half of my lid, and blended Black Pearl onto the outer half, and above into my crease. I also used Pink on my tear duct and slightly outwards onto my bottom lid. I lined the rest of my bottom lid with a mixture of Deep Purple and Black Pearl.

This palette retails for RM 190 at Chanel counters in Malaysia (roughly AUD 63).

Other products used were:

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack
Sleek Storm palette (dark brown colour) for the eyebrows
Elianto Fresia Blush in 03
NYX Round Lipstick in Paris
Chanel ProLumiere Foundation in 10

I hope you guys found this helpful. Wishing everyone a speedy week - weekend, come already!
