Makeup Faceoff: Urban Decay Primer Potion vs. Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Friday, July 01, 2011I've had the Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer for such a long time now, and I've always wondered how it stacks up against the famed Urban Decay Primer Potion. Today's post pits the two products together, and shows you which one performs better. I received the UDPP with my Naked palette - I couldn't bring myself to purchase it because it is so expensive!
So the other day, since I knew I would be out the entire day, I put these products to the test. UDPP on one eye, and the Etude primer on the other. I applied the products to both my upper and lower lids. I even went so far as to fry up some dinner, so the heat and oil would add up to make the ultimate test. (Paints a gross picture, doesn't it? - the things I do for the blog!)
This is how the Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer held up:
Before
After
Here's how the Urban Decay Primer Potion performed:
Before
After
Here are the 'after' results shown side by side:
Etude primer on left, UDPP on right
Etude primer on left, UDPP on right
It may seem like I'm a total Urban Decay basher here, given that I recently posted dupe swatches for the Urban Decay Naked palette, but I actually really like Urban Decay. Also, the UDPP has a killer reputation - and a title I never thought could be taken from it. As such, I started this little experiment just hoping that the Etude primer would perform at least almost as well as the UDPP. Boy, was I mistaken.
Performance
The pictures don't do Etude's lasting power any justice. If you look closely at the UDPP 'after' picture where my eye is open, you might notice that the bottom eyeshadow and liner have migrated downwards, and even formed a little unsightly line at the outer corner of my bottom lid.
In the pictures where my eyes are closed, you can see (and this surprised me a heck of a lot) that the eyeshadow is actually more vibrant in the picture on the left, where I used the Etude House primer.
Packaging
I must admit, that the UDPP has a one up on the Etude primer here, Urban Decay recently launched new versions of their UDPP, in a squeezy tube. Talk about convenience!
Price
Both primers are packaged at almost the same size - Urban Decay's is 11g and Etude House is packaged at 10g per bottle. Urban Decay has a larger sized tube, though.
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer is available on eBay, currently selling at USD 10.90 per bottle (including international shipping)
The Urban Decay Primer Potion (the 11g tube) retails at USD 19 on the Urban Decay website. Unfortunately, they do not ship internationally, so you have the added cost of merchant prices as well as shipping rates. So in this respect, Etude House is the clear winner.
Overall
I think Etude House's Proof 10 Eye Primer is the winner by a long mile. It performs better (albeit minutely), and it is cheaper. Not to mention, you gotta love when the underdog wins ;)
Here's the link to an eBay listing of the product, if anyone is interested!
