Product Review: The Jojoba Company

Sunday, July 03, 2011

I was sent these Jojoba Company products to try about 2 weeks back, and now that I've used them for a while, here's what I think.

These products come in cute, lush frosted glass packaging. The pumps dispense the product easily enough, though I find that I'm going through the serum faster than the oil, which is strange because I only pump the tiniest amount of the serum out each time I use it. Maybe it's the consistency of the product that makes the difference?

What Jojoba Company says:
The Jojoba company products are made from natural ingredients and are not tested on animals or use animal derivatives. Jojoba in Australia is a carbon negative crop

The Jojoba Company Pure Australian Golden Jojoba

What Jojoba says:
Golden Jojoba is nature's natural wrinkle fighter and is antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, hypo-allergenic and analgesic. It contains powerful anti-oxidants, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. It is cold pressed to protect the vitamins and nutrients
This is my favourite product of the two. I was really curious about the consistency of the product at first. It didn't form a greasy film on my face like most oils do. Instead, it sank immediately into my skin, leaving a very plumped, dry-and-yet-not-dry-feel. It's difficult to explain, interesting to experience, and a little confusing, until you learn that this is a wax, not an oil.

I'd stopped using my rosehip oil because it was a little too rich for my already-oily skin, even in the cold weather, but this wax didn't make my skin feel overly loaded with product, which is great because my skin stopped getting too oily in the afternoons, as it tends to do. Score!

My base makeup looks gorgeous and smooth on top of it, which is a major plus. Everything glides on very easily, too.

Overall, I am very impressed! I love that this is also very affordable - a 30ml bottle retails for AUD 18.95, 85ml for AUD 22.95, and 175ml for AUD 29.95. I will definitely be repurchasing once I run out.

The Jojoba Company Jojoba Absolute Serum

What Jojoba says:
The ultimate anti-aging treatment serum contains an innovative complex of silymarin and carnosine which work together to help reduce the look of lines and wrinkles and firms up the appearance of slackened skin naturally. It contains antioxidants to help prevent premature skin aging and it works to refine skin smoothness and expression lines. Skin is relaxed, less lined, intensely re-plumped and visibly smoothed.
This serum is absolutely gorgeous to use. It is so lightweight, and it gives a very refreshed feeling to the skin once applied. It smells weird to me, like pine and nuts with a little mint thrown in, but I think some people may really like it.

This serum sinks into the skin immediately upon application, which I really, really love. Also (another major plus point) a little, and I mean the tiniest amount, goes a really long way.

Performance-wise, it's had a minor difference on the wrinkles that I have a little below the outer corners of my eyes (that's really promising after just two weeks, no?). I'm really not sure how you measure the performance of an anti-aging serum? All I know is, I like it.

One thing I'm not quite sold on is the fact that the bottle is so small, and yet so expensive. I may be just overly cheap, or maybe it's the currency rate (I have to x3 to get the price in Malaysian Ringgit everytime I look at Australian prices) that gets to me, I don't know. AUD79.95 per 30ml bottle seems pretty steep to me.
