Makeup Tutorial: Black Smoky Eye
Sunday, August 07, 2011Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a lovely weekend! Unfortunately it's back to work tomorrow *groan*, but hopefully this makeup tutorial cheers you up a little. I only just realised that I've never done a black smoky eye. Since I've got an eyeshadow palette from Estée Lauder that I need to review, I thought why not do a makeup tutorial and kill two birds with one stone!
Please excuse the bad condition of my skin - it's been acting up like crazy lately and I am working on trying to get it back to normal!
I'll be putting the review of the actual eyeshadow palette up tomorrow, for anyone who's interested!
Okay, so to start off, apply your foundation. You can save this step for last if you think you're going to make a mess under your eye. If you're using this Estée Lauder eyeshadow duo, you should be safe doing foundation first, because I experienced no fall down whatsoever with the eyeshadows.
Pat as a shimmery black eyeshadow onto your lid, reaching up to your crease.
Using a blending brush, blend the edges so that there are no harsh lines. This will soften the shimmer and intensity of the shadow, so remember to reapply after blending.
Using the same brush, reapply the eyeshadow, blend, and reapply as needed to increase intensity.
Using an angled eyeliner brush, apply a matte black eyeshadow to the lashline, extending outwards, aiming for the end of the brow. Thicken the line and blend it with your blending brush to spread the colour and add more contour to your eye.
Apply a gel or liquid eyeliner to your lashline, following the same line mapped out with your angled eyeliner brush and matte black eyeshadow earlier.
(Sorry for the blurred picture!) Apply a highlight colour to your brow bone and the inner corner of your eye. I am using TheBalm Mary Lou-Manizer.
Then, clean up underneath the eye with a concealer. I am using MAC MoistureCover in NC25.
Apply bronzer to contour (Sleek Contour Kit in Medium), and a blush (Tarte 24-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface)
Finally, apply a nude lipstick. I used a combination of Lime Crime's lipstick in Coquette with the new Australis Gloss Stick in Candy Floss (review to come) - I think they make an amazing bright-but-neutral (if that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't) lip colour!
