Chinese New Year Series: Chap Goh Mei
Friday, February 18, 2011One last FOTD for my Chinese New Year Series - Chap Goh Mei! Chap Goh Mei (translates roughly into 15th day) is the final day of Chinese New Year, and is somewhat the Valentine's Day of the Chinese world.
On this day, Chinese girls gather around the river and throw in mandarin oranges with their names and/or particulars written on the oranges, in hopes of finding Mr Right. Interestingly enough, this custom originated in Penang, Malaysia (yay Malaysia!). This also marked the only day (in olden times) when unmarried women were allowed to be seen together with their suitors.
So obviously I wanted this look to stand out and yet show a little sweetness at the same time. Here's what I did:
I am a little bit obsessed with green at the moment - and I wanted my green to be just perfect, so I went a little overboard and layered 3 different eyeshadows together.
I used NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Forest Green as a base, then layered Ragged Blossom Beauty Mineral Eyeshadow in Mint Sauce over it, then lightly layered Urban Decay's Loaded on top of that.
The brown colour is Urban Decay's Smog, with The Face Shop eyeshadow in BK903 blended on top of it into the crease.
Chinese New Year is finally over (bummer), and I'm off to Bali with the boyfriend, my sisters, and my cousins and their boyfriends, so it's going to be a big group! Hopefully we're not too disorganized, and I hope we have a wonderful time.
I will be MIA for the next few days, but please check back on Tuesday afternoon for updates! I will be posting more looks, and maybe some pictures from Bali.
I hope everyone has an awesome weekend!
