Get the Look: Colour-Pop Smokey Brown Eye
Friday, January 07, 2011Hi guys! I don't have much to do while I wait to fly back to Malaysia, so you're all getting bombarded with makeup tutorials.
Today's look is a soft brown smokey eye with a turquoise pop. I love that this look is bold yet subtle (lol), and still wearable.
This look is quite easy to achieve, because it doesn't require the blending of many colours or any knowledge of how much crease to shade, and how to highlight or contour.
Here's how you do it:
Since the eye will be accented, the brows should be left simple. If you normally use brow stencil, don't use it this time. Just shade in the gaps in your brow and leave it like that. You don't need to comb them through, either.
Tightline your eye. Lift your eyelid by pressing your finger onto the middle of your eyelid and pulling it upwards so the lashline is better exposed. Then, take a gel/cake/liquid eyeliner and press the black into your lashline. Do this by wiggling your eyeliner brush into a portion of your lashes at a time. You have to be patient with this, or you'll end up with a messy lashline.
I'm using MAC's Fluidline in Blacktrack
Lightly sweep a cream eyeshadow onto your lid. If you have a gold or copper coloured shadow, it would be better. Here, I'm using Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Smut.
Next, sweep a brown eyeshadow onto your lid, following the shape of an almond. Aim the corner of the eyeshadow at the end of your eyebrow. The brown I am using is from Elianto's Holiday Palette.
Add a shimmery nude shadow to the inner corners of your eyes, and blend out a little toward the centre of the lid. Here, I am using Clinique Eyeshadow in Lucky Penny.
Next, make a mark with your turquoise eyeliner at the edge of your eye (the end of the almond shape) as a rough guide as to how far out your line should be drawn.
Then, starting from 2/3rds into your bottom lashline, draw the turquoise line out towards your earlier marking.
Once you're done, take a similar coloured eyeshadow with an eyeliner brush, and press it into your eyeliner. Once you reach the inner corner of your eye, smudge the eyeshadow and blend it so that the line where the eyeliner stops and where the shimmery eyeshadow begins is not so harsh.
Lightly dust some bronzer, this time onto your cheekbones instead of under. Top it off with a luminizer, and add luminizer to your brow bone.
I'm using Rimmel's 8Hr Mousse Bronzer in Medium Glow, and TheBalm's Mary Lou-Manizer.
Apply your false eyelashes, then curl and apply mascara to both top and bottom lashes.
Then, do your lips. Make sure to exfoliate before applying lipstick and lipgloss. Wet your lips, then lightly brush the surface with a toothbrush.
Apply a pinkish-nude lipstick. For this look, I mixed NYX's Round Lipsticks in Circe and Fig. Then, I applied Clinique's Full Potential Lip Shine in Play-full.
And here's the finished look!
I hope everyone's having a great week! And I hope you have an even greater weekend! :)
