Get the Look: Colourful Eye
Monday, January 10, 2011I've never really experimented with colour on my eyes. My eyeshadow collection was limited to dark blues, grays, browns, and varying shades of black.
Only recently, I started to see how fun it can be to experiment with colour, and that I wouldn't end up looking like a transvestite.
So here's a simple FOTD (Face of the Day) that I did this morning. It's just a bright turquoise pop, and when you blink, you get a flash of green, too.
The steps are pretty simple:
Start with a cream shadow base. You can use a lighter coloured base, such as cream or white, to make your green colour more vibrant. Make sure that the colour stays on the part of your eyelid that doesn't show when your eyes are open. I have Benefit's Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Strut on my lids.
Pat a bright green eyeshadow onto the cream shadow. As you can see, if you use a dark cream eyeshadow base, your final look will be a little more toned down than if you used a lighter coloured base.
Line your eyes. Wing the eyeliner out at the outer corners of your eye. As usual, aim for the ends of your eyebrows. Here, I used Barbie Loves Stila All Day Liquid Eyeliner.
Using a turquoise pencil/shadow liner, line your bottom waterline. I used Avon's Arabian Glow Clearly Shadowed Eye Pencils in Turquoise.
Now, you will either shade or highlight your crease. Asian eyes are almost always small and shallow, these creases will need shading. Lightly pat a crease brush into a medium-brown shadow, and blend into your crease.
If you have deep-set eyes, then your crease will need highlighting. Lightly pat your brush into a light-brown coloured shadow, and blend into your crease.
Lightly pat some light bronzer underneath your cheekbones, then layer highlighter on top of the blush, onto your brow bone, and onto the inner corners of your eyes. I used the Body Shop's Bronzer in 01, and TheBalm's Mary Lou-Manizer.
Finally, apply a bright pink lipstick, just to add more colour for a fun look. I used NYX's Round Lipstick in Fig.
And that completes the look!
