Get the Look: Wearable Summery Smoky Eye
Thursday, May 26, 2011So I was watching JLo's new video the other day - the name escapes me - and I loved her natural, summery smoky eye in the beach scene, not to mention her skin looked so amazingly glowy and bronzed!
I wanted to do something similar (and a little less smoky because it was daytime). Here are the step-by-step instructions:
I wanted to keep my skin really glowy and dewy for this look, so I primed with JK Jemma Kidd Mannequin Skin Enhancer in 01 Canvas. This provided a really golden, glowing base. (Review to come)
Then, I applied Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #4. It's not as tan as I would like, but hey, you make do.
Start by placing a matte brown eyeshadow onto your mobile lid. It should be a nice cool-toned, deep warm brown. I used the darkest brown in my 88 Neutrals Palette.
The key to this look is layering and blending, so blend out the eyeshadow, and then apply another layer of the brown eyeshadow on top of it, and blend again. Rinse and repeat, until you get your desired intensity.
Then, taking a small pencil/liner brush, apply a matte black eyeshadow onto your lashline. Blend the line so that it fades into your brown eyeshadow. Again, I used a black from the 88 Neutrals Palette.
Lightly brush the brown eyeshadow onto your lower lashline.
Clean up underneath your eyes with a concealer. Don't set your face with powder for this look - you want your skin to look as dewy as humanly possible.
Take a gold-toned highlighter and place it on your brow bone, and on the inner corner of your eye.
Contour your face with a slightly orange-based contour colour - I used the orangey-brown eyeshadow in the SAX Eye Delight Eyeshadow Palette. Then, apply a blush. The blush I used is particularly perfect for this look, because it has gold shimmer in it, which copies the effect of JLo's blush perfectly. For this look, apply the blush all the way across the cheek, onto the cheekbones and up to your hairline. I used Sleek Blush in Rose Gold.
Finally, apply lipstick followed by a lipgloss. I used Illamasqua Lipstick in Obey, topped off with NYX Brush On Lipgloss in Lilac Fields. Apply some thick eyelashes (if you feel like it) and you're done!
So there's your simple, summery smoky eye makeup tutorial. I hope you found it useful! In hindsight though, I really shouldn't have posted JLo's picture here. She looks like a glimmery bronzed goddess next to my flailing albino penguin :/
