Just a quick post today - I'm finally flying home to Malaysia! I'll be there for about a month, to soak up the Chinese New Year goodness with my loved ones and maybe get some shopping in before I come back to Melbourne.

I'll be busy running some last minute errands today, and making arrangements for Chloe's care. I'm going to miss her so much!


As for me, I'll be posting more beauty posts once I get back to Malaysia!

Malaysia, here I come!

In spirit of Independence Day (Selamat Hari Merdeka, everyone!), I'm just going to post a little bit about the things I love about Malaysia. Despite problems that I'm not going to comment on, it is, after all, my home.


Malaysia's food is awesome. Nasi lemak (pictured above), char kuay teow, yee mee, hokkien mee, the list just goes on and on! If there's one thing I'll always miss about Malaysia, it's the food. Okay, I'm making myself drool.


Mamaks! The perfect place to hang out, grab extremely cheap food, and meet up for a casual get-together. And then there are the people working at the mamaks - always a funny bunch.


This picture illustrates a 2-in-1: Giant supermarket, and the weather (oh, glorious shorts!). Giant is about a 5-10 minute drive from my home, depending on traffic, and stocks everything a grocery-slash-department store should stock. I go there to get my various snack-fixes to stock up at home.
People complain that Malaysia is way too hot, but I think it has its charms. Think of it as being at the beach, all year long  :)


The parties, the gatherings, the fireworks!! Okay, so we only bring out the fireworks like twice a year, but it's good fun! And I love that all my family members are there. Whenever I'm home, I try to meet with the cousins at least a few times a week, if all our schedules permit.


THE CAR. I miss being able to drive! I don't mind walking around the city, but it's nice to have an alternative mode of transport during those long days at uni, or after a long night out in heels, or for road trips!! Not to mention the warmth that the car provides on freezing days.


The one thing I miss the most about Malaysia is the company. I miss my cousins, miss my family members, and I miss my friends. I miss my dogs, too.

Anyway, this is Malaysia through my eyes. There are so many other things about Malaysia that I adore, but I don't have any pictures and will not bore you with dry paragraphs. Come see it for yourself  :)

So I was back in Malaysia for about a week, to run a few errands and get a few things done.

While I was back, I tried to meet up with a few people, but only managed the one meeting with my ex college classmates, and another with Mich to Laundry.

The rest of my time was spent getting some things for Melbourne, and, of course, running my errands.

I also got to see my dogs, but I don't have a nice picture of Scott.


Then there were meetups with the cousins, which I am really grateful for, but didn't get enough of.



I loved being back in Malaysia, but, of course, it sucked that I didn't have enough time to meet up with all the people that I wanted to meet up with. I also missed the boyfriend, very much.

I was quite worried that I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with him (the last time we were apart, I had such a hard time getting in touch with him, and we fought so much because of it), but because he had mobile internet, and I had my Mom's BlackBerry service, it was absolutely perfect.
That being said, I was really happy to come back to him in Melbourne.


This mini-holiday really made me realise just how much I love Melbourne. Of course, I'd love it more if I had all my friends here, but hey, that's the way life is, I guess.


Chloe is, of course, very glad and pampered now that everyone is back in Melbourne. In fact, I am cuddling her right now, as I'm typing this.

I'm glad to be back!

I've been keeping myself busy! An exam the morning I got back, a negotiation competition (this is really freaking me out), going out with the housemates, lunch with the boyfriend...

Tomorrow I'm going to the boyfriend's soccer game, and then coming back and catching up on lectures. I found this really awesome programme called Tony Buzan's iMindMap, which I think works great for memorizing the law principles and arguments. Contact me for a download link!

I've been home for 3 days now, and I haven't actually done much.

I spent the first day with my parents, the second day doing an exam, and the third watching a movie and hanging wout with the cousins.

On my first night back, we went out with the cousins to Republic to hang out together.



We ended up going inside because Rue Bee wanted to dance, but it was sooo empty. We pretty much had the place to ourselves....and if you know us, you know what that means.


There was a lot of screaming, a lot of laughing, and a whole bunch of boob-grabbing and ass-smacking.


Hey, what's family for, right?   :)


I love you guys!

I just had an oral exam this morning, and tonight, I'm going home.

I've only got a carry-on bag and a handbag with me (I'm not even bringing my laptop home), and I'm only going to be back for a week.

Even so, I'm feeling really bad. I don't want to leave my boyfriend behind, and I don't want to leave Chloe, either.

 PLUS Jace has left for football training, which means I'll be leaving an empty home, and leaving Chloe behind all by herself! I feel so, so bad!

I FEEL REALLY, REALLY BAD!! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!

There was too much alcohol, and just the right amount of fun....before Jace passed out, anyway. Enjoy the pictures! Jace is planning to post the rest on Facebook soon.

The boyfriend and I watched it when we were out celebrating his birthday together. WATCH IT!

If you loved "He's Just Not That Into You" you're gonna adore this one!

Right from the beginning, it's got this upbeat, happy-go-lucky, so-happy-I-wanna-dance-and-sing-in-the-rain kind of skip to it. It's quirky, it's funny, but it's not your typical romance movie either. Far from it, in fact.





And really, Garry Marshall can do no wrong!

Plus, there's this scene at the end, during the gag reel, when they incorporate a little something from Pretty Woman, a Garry Marshall film starring Julia Roberts from 1990, into the movie. It is too cute.



The colours, the script, the characters, the setting - everything is absolutely wonderfully put together!



Oh, watch out for this one bit where Queen Latifah picks up the phone. HILARIOUS!

Hello everyone, just a quick update before I go get ready to go out.

Happy Chinese New Year, and a Happy Valentine's Day to everyone!

The boyfriend and I had an early Valentine's Day celebration on Friday - sweet and intimate (I'll post some blurry but cute pictures up soon).

As for Chinese New Year, the reunion dinner yesterday was crazy fun (again, photos up soon). I had the most awesome time with the cousins, as always, and hopefully we see each other again really soon.

I'm late for new year visiting, so I'll leave you all with a teaser picture from the reunion dinner and I'll be back soon with more pictures and updates!

I came across this recipe for a cake with butter icing and thought I'd give it a try - I was originally planning to make cupcakes with a strawberry glaze but I would have had to go to Giant to get the ingredients and I wasn't in the mood to go out.

It is supposed to have this zest to it from lemon juice, but I used lime puree so it just made the cake really moist. As for the taste, the lime didn't do very much but the cake itself tasted pretty good!

It's hard not to get caught up in the political situation of Malaysia today. Quite a deviation from my usual posts, I know nothing and speak nothing of politics and the goings-on in Malaysia. But nowadays they're hard to miss.

I would've stayed in Malaysia. I would've made my life, and my home here, and I'd like to think that I would've been extremely, wholly, happy.

But now, with everything that is going on, people are urging me to run. People say there is no future here. The exact same message reverberates through emails and blogs and websites that I have been reading.

I love Malaysia. I love our people, our culture, our Manglish, our differences and our unity (government aside). I love the sights, the sounds, ok maybe not the smells. I would recommend Malaysia to any a traveller looking for some good Asian fun.

As much as I love it, I guess I do have to face reality. So as much as I hate to do it, off I go.

Of course, nothing is set in stone. Who's to say where I do or do not belong?

For now, though, away I go. I sure will miss Malaysian life.

Chinese New Year is coming up....on the same day as Valentine's Day :)

Being a Chinese couple, Jace and I are torn between the two (as almost every other Chinese couple will be).

It's the first day of the New Year, so we both have places to be - my grandma's place in the morning, and then his grandparents on both sides later in the afternoon.

That leaves us the nighttime, but we're not exactly sure what to do yet.

One thing is for sure, though. Bring on the fireworks and the Chinese New Year songs. I am ready to rock CNY 2010!





p.s. That having been said, we haven't yet put up our Chinese New Year decorations here at home - save for a lone red-and-silver fish hanging from our front doorknob. 'Tis sad.

One thing you must know about my family - we're dramatic. We overreact, we're loud, we're obnoxious, we're bitchy, we're self-centered. We cuss, we tell you when we don't like something, we sulk, we shout.

But we have a strong sense of loyalties, we stand up for what is right, we love being together, and we share a strong bond that not many others have.

That's why I love my family.
